I am Teresa Lawrence, a veteran of the U. S Army and currently serving as a high school English teacher in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Prior to relocating to Illinois from Texas, I worked for several years at a four year university assisting undergraduate and graduate students with academic advising, degree planning and editorial services. I have served as the Gifted Education Coordinator at the middle school level, a Dean of Students at both the middle and high school levels, an alternative education teacher and a Principal/Coordinator of a multi-district alternative high school. In my current district I have a role as an affiliate trainer for Courageous Conversations About Race, a minority student achievement mentor, and co-creator and facilitator of the Student Teacher Equity Partnership (S.T.E.P.).
As a trained court appointed special advocate (CASA) and grant writer, I understand how to secure resources for individuals and groups. I am able to offer services in the areas of program development and implementation that pertains to the academic achievement of BIPOC/girls and alternative education students. Additional services provided could include, but not limited to, educational consulting (Black girls’ education, trauma informed teaching, motivational speaking) and the assessment of equitable school/student resources.
